RIR is an estimate. Lower-effort entries use broad ranges and descriptions.

RPE

Rating of Perceived Exertion

A subjective intensity scale that quantifies how hard an effort feels during exercise.

RIR

Reps in Reserve

An estimate of how many additional repetitions could have been completed beyond a set.

Example: RPE 8 / RIR 2

At the end of the set, you estimate that about two more repetitions were possible. Record the effort alongside the weight and repetitions.
